Former University of Maine women’s basketball coach Cindy Blodgett includes a job being an assistant coach in the University of Rhode Island.

URI states Blodgett signed an agreement on Monday.

The Bangor Daily News states Blodgett may be the second assistant coach hired by URI mind coach Trina Inglese in the last ten days.

Blodgett was fired from her Maine job captured after producing an archive of 24-94 in her own four seasons in Orono.

Inglese is within her third year at URI.

Engineering program receives several $1 million donations at the University of Rhode Island

Three gifts of more than $1 million were given to the University of Rhode Island in December to support the graduate and undergraduate students of the College of Engineering.

The donations represented different donors and support student focuses. The first donation was from an alumnus who chose to remain anonymous.

President of the URI Foundation, which manages donations to URI, Glen R. Kerklan, said the anonymous donor gave the gift in honor of a professor, who he felt had been a positive influence. This donation will be used in order to fund the Robert S. Haas Endowed Professorship in Electrical Engineering, a fund named in honor of the professor who taught at URI from 1948 to 1988.

Walter Schmid, an alumnus of the university’s engineering programs, donated in an effort to set up a fund to benefit undergraduate and graduate students in the engineering program.

The third donor was Toray Plastics (America), which has a location in North Kingston, R.I. who donated as a corporate gift.

“Toray is a long and well known Rhode Island company. It’s really a celebration of our partnership with them,” Kerklan said.

He said that the $1 million donation from Toray was their largest donation, but it was not the first donation the university has received from them.
