According to source – Alabama A&M University is struggling to find funds for 45 students expecting scholarship money that was cut by the state legislature.
According to Alabama A&M Vice President Wendy Kobler, the matter surrounds two-year transfer scholarships which are funded as part of the Education Trust Fund budget. The funding for all those scholarships was cut when Gov. Robert Bentley authorized the budget into law in June.
Kobler on Wednesday stated Alabama A&M did not find out about the cuts until Tuesday , the day before classes started for the fall semester.
The program requires full two-year scholarships for students transferring to Alabama A&M or Alabama State from two-year state institutions.
In a 2009 Alabama A&M press release announcing the program, it said the scholarships were financed through a $1 million authorization by the legislature.
Kobler said Alabama State also did not receive scholarship funds.
As a result Alabama A&M is searching for funding for those 45 students anticipating to attend the school.

According to the news- The policies of Alabama A&M University will be reviewed by a national accrediting agency after finding evidence of significant noncompliance of rules.
President Andrew Hugine receive a letter coming from The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools that tackles eight issues that are under review. The agency said half of the eight issues stem from a letter inquiry that has been filed in January. The other half cropped up in a probe that will not be resolved before december.
President Hugine is now cooperating with the agency and he sees a visit by the agency as an chance for them to get it right.
According to source – An inquiry by its regional accrediting agency into possible wrongdoing at Alabama A&M University is at least a month behind schedule in reaching a resolution.
Also, the school stated Friday it had no intention of releasing its response to the inquiry by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools until the inquiry is closed, which could be in violation of the state’s open records laws.
Among the information SACS sought from Alabama A&M was a clarification on the relationship between the school and the Alabama A&M Research Institute, an update on FBI and federal grand jury investigations related to the research institute, as well as various financial and personnel issues.
Ultimately, a probe that began in January continues to hang over Alabama A&M, and the school has received no word of when that cloud might finally be lifted.
“We have not received anything from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools,” President Dr. Andrew Hugine told The Times Friday. “There has been no response to the information we submitted,” other than a request for clarification on some points.
