Three Alaskan skiers in Top 30 at Worlds

Three Alaska women placed in the top 30 at the U23 World Championships in Otepaa, Estonia on Thursday. Sadie Bjornsen, of the Alaska Pacific University nordic program, took 23rd in the 10-kilometer freestyle race, finishing in 29 minutes, 31.1 seconds. Caitlin Patterson, who is from Anchorage and skis for the University of Vermont, placed 26th in 29:34.8, and Rebecca Rorabaugh of APU came in 29th at 30:25.6.

Lex Treinen of Anchorage finished 35th in the men’s 15-K freestyle race, clocking 38:04.9.

Noah Hoffman of the Aspen Valley Ski Club was the top American finisher, taking ninth place in the men’s race in 36:42.4.

Krista Lahteenmaki (26:33.3) of Finland took gold in the women’s race, and Evgeniy Belov (35:26.3) of Russia took gold in the men’s race.

The new school president of Alaska Pacific University is Dr. Don Bantz.

The ceremony is to officially welcome and honor the new president, as well as recognize the university’s past, present and future.

He has been on the position for sometime but he was formally installed at the Dena’ina Center last Saturday.

The ceremony also marks the culmination of APU’s presidential search process, which took nearly a year.

Alaska Pacific University is a private institution that was founded in 1957.
