According to source  - Coming to the green flag on his first Sprint Cup qualifying lap of the year, Josh Wise nearly crashed.

The Ford Fusion, with Bradley University graphics on the hood, wiggled as soon as then nearly went sideways, missing the fourth turn wall at Chicagoland Speedway by inches.

“My heart kind of dropped,” said Wise. But you really have to just try to recover so I definitely didn’t want to panic. I knew the first lap wasn’t going to be any good so I just tried to use it to feel what the car was going to be like and just get everything I could on the second lap. Then it was just a nail-biter watching everyone go.”

Wise was the third of 47 qualifiers to make attempts on Saturday. Robby Gordon had gone out first but dropped oil on the track, so oil dry had to be applied and then blown off by the jet dryers. Those machines also leave a little residue so the track wasn’t in optimum shape.

Incoming freshmen at Bradley University are becoming a headstart on researching their new school and fellow students – when they talk to old buddies.

Together with 30 other U.S. schools, Bradley is a component of the choose Facebook program that enables the college to make use of the most popular social networking site.

“‘Schools on Facebook’ helps youthful people discover how it is enjoy being students here,” stated Susan Andrews, BU’s new connect Vice president of selling.

Students chat freely with each other given their knowledge of online communication, stated Jim Crone, the school’s director of internet marketing. “What kid does not possess a Facebook account?” he stated.

The brand new BU students exchange applying for grants from housing to hobbies, stated Andrews. “They discover similarities and interests,” she stated.

Bradley’s Facebook program reaches about 300 from the 1,000 students within the 2011-2012 newcomer class, stated Andrews. “We’ll roll the (Facebook) program to the whole student body within the fall,” she stated.

Bradley hall getting ready for trio

An all-American, a coach with more than 1,000 wins and a man with an iconic voice will share the stage in two weeks, when Bradley University inducts the 2011 class to its athletics Hall of Fame during Alumni Weekend festivities.

Princeville native and track/cross country star Mary Ellen Hill-Shupbach, retired baseball coach Dewey Kalmer and basketball public-address announcer Paul Herzog will be honored at a luncheon Feb. 11. Their formal induction will take place at halftime of the Bradley-Evansville basketball game Feb. 12.

Hill was a two-time all-American on the track and will be enshrined with a picture, a distinction for individuals who’ve made a mark on the national level.

She won the Missouri Valley Conference cross country championships in 1998 and ’99, leading Bradley to its first team championship in any women’s sport in 1998. She won eight more MVC titles in track, setting conference records outdoors in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs and indoors at 3,000.

According to source, A number of area students have received recognition on the Dean’s List for the Fall semester at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester on a 4.0 scale.

Fulton County residents named to the Dean’s List include Alyssa S. Turner of Canton and Avery D. Kellogg and Damon G. Taylor of Fairview.

Registering to Vote at Bradley University

Bradley University is a private institution that was founded in 1897.

College students and retirees, Democrats and Republicans. All will join together on tonight for a bi-partisan, multi-generational “Your Vote Rally!” at Bradley University.

The Vote Rally is open to the public. Refreshments and fellowship will follow at 6 p.m.

The importance of civic engagement and registering to vote will highlight the 5 p.m. rally in the Michel Student Center atrium.

That election includes statewide races for U.S. Senate and governor as well as other offices.

The Vote Rally is sponsored by the Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service (IPL) at Bradley, the Bradley College Republicans, College Democrats, Students Promoting Political Involvement, and the local AARP.
