Seattle University women left watching as Chicago State rallies for victory

Visiting Chicago State surged out of a halftime tie to beat Seattle University 74-62 in women’s basketball Saturday at Connolly Center.

The Redhawks, losers of six in a row, jumped out to an early lead, but the Cougars (14-8) rallied for the 31-31 halftime tie.

Chicago State opened the second half with a 13-4 run that the Redhawks (5-17) couldn’t overcome.

“Chicago State is a very good team,” said Seattle coach Joan Bonvicini. “We tried to really mix it up and for a while we were successful, but at the beginning of the second half (Chicago State) made a burst.”

For Seattle, Elle Kerfoot, with 20 points, was in double figures for the sixth consecutive game. She had four three-pointers and eight assists.

Courtney Waldon topped Chicago State with 19 points.
