College Dating

You could possibly be at your very best behaviour yet still your date would have refused to see you the second time. This may let you think about that what went wrong which in turn made him or her reject your proposal for the second date. Well, this is because of your body language. You’d probably have sent some signals that you shouldn’t have considered your body language, knowingly or unknowingly.

You must know about body language so that you don’t end up sending wrong signals towards the date as long as you’re on it – to frighten the date away. Following suggestions would help.

If you’re interested in the person that you are dating then it would be great to have an eye-to-eye contact with the date. But that doesn’t imply that you stare. While taking you should always maintain an eye contact and in circumstance respond well to that implies that the other person has an interest or else the other person will not have an eye contact while talking. This should actually be an indication enough for you to understand.

The very first impression is really important. No matter how much people babble about being open minded as well as being up against the first impression, they secretly do also believe in the same. Therefore, make certain that you’re at your best behaviors when your date sees you for the first time, this will not only imply that you are dressed well, this would mean that the same is oozing out of your skin and behaviors.

The hand actions knowingly or unknowingly would certainly say a lot regarding your intentions. Therefore you needs to be a little aware of exactly what a particular hand gesture means, so that you are careful about the same while you’re on a date. This certainly will make sure that you are only sending those signals that you would like to.

The way you would stand would talk a lot about you. So be careful, it is preferable to stand straight without leaning and also at the same time respect the physical space of the other person.

College Dating

According to source: “Dating doctor” Kerry Cronin motivated students to turn to dating – rather than hookups – as a good source of intimacy as well as fulfillment at a Monday talk in St. Thomas More Chapel.

Cronin, a professor of philosophy at Boston College and well known there as the “dating doctor,” layed out problems with the prevalent college hookup culture in front of about 30 students. Cronin stated that college students usually use hookups, which she defined as physical or sexual interaction with out intended emotional attachment, as an alternative for intimate relationships. But Cronin argued that the practices of dating and relationships hold larger long-term benefits to students than the hookup.

“What the hookup culture teaches us is disconnect, and not attachment and learning who we really are,” Cronin said.

Cronin said the hookup culture is grounded in student anxiety over graduating without sexual experiences.

College students use hookups to attain the emotional “intensity” of relationships with no intimacy and potential awkwardness of dating. But she said randomly hookups tend to be unfulfilling and don’t help students feel more desirable in the end.

“It promises a feeling of desirability which it doesn’t deliver on,” Cronin said. “What we crave is real intimacy, but it’s too scary and dangerous and awkward. What [we] substitute it with is intensity.”

Only about 40 percent of students take part in the college hookup culture, Cronin said. These college students often gain social status and recognition from their hookup activities, which Cronin said is partly what makes the culture attractive.

Though Cronin said the meaning of “hooking up” is usually unclear when used in conversation, she stated that students on college campuses possess a “hookup script” - implicit understandings and expectations about how exactly to behave in a hookup situation. Not every hookups are the same, Cronin said, as she elaborated on different types of hookups like the “friend hookup,” the “mistake hookup” and the “revenge hookup.”

As the reasons behind hookups vary, Cronin mentioned the defining characteristic of all hookups is a absence of intimacy. Students have told her that all hookups follow similar rules, she added, for example that hookup partners should drink equally, know where their shoes are, tell stories of their hookups the following day and remain emotionally detached.

In an effort to combat this culture, Cronin said she has college students in one of her philosophy classes at Boston College ask another person on a date for an assignment. College students these days have a problem with the concept of dating, Cronin said, calling it a lost social skill. She relayed humorous anecdotes about her students’ dating attempts, explaining how one panicked male student ended a date with a high-five when he couldn’t determine what to do.

While Cronin admitted that lots of dating customs have become old-fashioned, she said college students must still pursue relationships despite the probability of embarrassment. Cronin said the communication involved in dating is the “antidote” to the hookup culture, helping students both with self-esteem and also with finding out their personal desires.

Jeff Marrs ’13 said he was glad to hear issues of sexual climate and dating discussed, noting that these problems are frequently overlooked.

Grace Hirshorn ’15 said she was struck by Cronin’s emphasis on the courage it takes to ask someone on a date.

“The act of courage is ‘I just want to get to know you better,’” Hirshorn said. “Hopefully many people will take the time to find that courage.”

The event was organized by St. Thomas More as part of Sex Week 2012.

College Dating

According to source:  Date My School is a college dating site founded by two MBA students at Columbia. Balazs Aexa and Jean Meyer wanted to connect college singles with one another through like interests – think Match.com for coeds.

While many would assume love is the last thing a college student is looking for, the site has been a huge success. Date My School boasts nearly 100,000 users. It is now ”the largest college dating website ever,” according to Shreshth Dugar, the site’s marketing director.

The Columbia college students started the site since they’re part of what they call a ‘lonely generation.’ “People in the 21st century are alone,” Mr. Meyer told the New York Times. “We have so many new ways of communicating, yet we are so alone.”

Inside our world of virtual communication, it’s no surprise that a lot of people look for love through social networking sites. Less than half of all adults are married in the U.S., so more people than ever are looking for love.

Unlike other social networking sites, Date My School has a extremely selective function that allows users to personalize what they’re searching for in a mate. ”Through the search function one can specify religion and body type,” the New York Times reported.

“The selectivity can sound a bit shallow. I have a friend who is visible only to law, business, engineering, and med students at Columbia. One could say she wants to meet men who have a solid, lucrative future ahead of them, but I also think she wants to meet men who are responsible, men who have a plan, know themselves and know what they want from life,” said Dominique Lefebvre, 24, a film student at Columbia.

The site has been live since December 2010, and Meyer and Aexa have collected information from users to find out which colleges have the hottest student population. “If the men or women at a university are deemed ‘hot’ by this ranking, it means their profile photos are most frequently saved by others, accounting for differences in numbers of users at each school,” the Atlantic Wire reported.

Rich Martell, 21, was forced to pay £300 and take the site down after University College London (UCL) deemed that the website, FitFinder, brought the institution into disrepute.
The site, which allowed UCL students to flirt with each other online, reached five million hits within four weeks of opening and was soon spread to other universities.

Authorities at UCL deemed the website an undesirable distraction from academic work, and representatives of other universities also contacted UCL to complain about the site, The Times reported.

The final-year computer sciences student was told he could put his degree in jeopardy unless he disabled it. He reportedly described the action against him as harsh.
An online petition to reinstate the site had more than 4200 signatures on Sunday night. A message from Mr Martell on the web page said: “We have been placed under increasing pressure to take the website offline by Universities.

“Subsequently we have decided to remove FitFinder BUT we hope this is only temporary. PLEASE PLEASE sign our petition to being fitfinder back online! With your support we can be a nation of fitties once again!”

A University spokesman said: “UCL does not approve of or condone this site. UCL has no jurisdiction over it.

“We have, however, taken disciplinary action against the student for bringing the college into disrepute and he has been fined.”

SOME footy players up north don’t have the best rep regarding their treatment of women but one website sees them as role models. For cheating, that is. A dating website we won’t name targets those looking for an extra-marital fling and has offered a chance to play the field off the field to the state team that wins the State of Origin series. All players on the winning team from either NSW or Queensland will get an ”elite VIP pack” from the website enabling them to behave badly without negative media attention, a press release enthuses.

”Instead of celebrating their victory in the nightclubs with the paparazzi snapping away and perhaps getting caught in a compromising situation, players will be able to indulge under more discreet circumstances,” it said. We suspect their next prize target will be the poster boy for sporting philanderers Tiger Woods when he comes to town in November.
Ties that blind

THE World Cup euphoria continues, for the winners at least. In the US where they are not so accustomed to sporting ”world” competitions that actually involve other countries, the term ”win” can be stretched in times of national exuberance. Sunday’s headline in the New York Post screamed ”USA wins 1-1” after their draw against England. The front-page confusion continued over the difference between Britain and England in a smaller headline: ”Greatest tie against the British since Bunker Hill.” Still, across the Atlantic, the English were treating it as a loss and venting their fury against unfortunate goalkeeper Robert ”Hand of Clod” Green.

The World Cup is often said to bring nations together. But will the beautiful game end up causing couples to drift apart?

64 matches over 25 days, that’s almost 100 hours of World Cup madness. But will all that soccer action mean greater differences for couples off the field?

One person says: “If I ever met someone, they would have to enjoy football. Otherwise, I could never be with them because it’s like you want to watch it with them, or them let you go out to watch it and if they try to stop you, it just wont work. It’ll be really bad.”

Another remarks: “Probably they would have to explain to their girlfriends because most of them don’t really play or know anything much about soccer other than guys kicking balls. That’s it.”

On the flip side of the coin – using the World Cup to bond.

One person comments: “Maybe they don’t understand how the soccer work, like me myself, I don’t know how those balls work around there. So, maybe the guy can tell the lady how it works, or some guys hate soccer as well. I have friends, ladies, who love soccer and maybe they can nurture their next one and say what soccer is all about.”

Experts say you don’t really have to force yourself to like the game, if you don’t want to. It all boils down to prioritising.

(Anissa Hassan, managing director, It’s Just Lunch, says: “Just like music, you don’t have to sing or you don’t have to play a musical instrument to enjoy music.

Same thing goes for football, you’re watching it because you’re passionate about the game, you’re watching it for the skill on the pitch, you’re watching it because the person that you care about also enjoys the match. So it’s all a matter of how much you want to let go, or how much you want to learn in this World Cup season.”

Single again? As we travel through life, we often end up single. There are many reasons why. It could be the result of meeting the wrong person, death, cheating, lies, divorce, location, goals, and more. Losing a relationship impacts us in many ways. It can be very painful, or it can be very refreshing, or anywhere in-between. No matter what the cause or the degree of pain, there is one truth we all share: We don’t want to end up alone. We want to find companionship.

In order to get into a new relationship, we have to be willing to meet and go out with people. It’s our own fear, however, that often gets in the way.

? We fear getting rejected. ? We fear having a bad time. ? We fear getting hurt. ? We fear having to reject someone else.

All these fears are valid yet easily overcome. If someone rejects you, it only means that that person feels you are not right for them. Believe me, there is someone else who would love to be with you. You have to accept rejection. It is only through trying do we get to the right person.

Many dates and relationships don’t work out. You may look back and think of it as a bad time. It is all right to have a bad time. Only through bad dates do we get to the good dates. It is through our bad relationships that we have the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and what we want, to then approach relationships with more knowledge to succeed.

No one wants to get hurt but if we do not dare to fall in love and get hurt, we cannot be in love. Getting hurt is part of the process. We do get through it and the pain does go away. The best part is there is new love waiting for you.

You may also be fearful of rejecting someone. The truth is no one is obligated to stay with someone who isn’t right for them. Rejection is part of the dating and relationship process.

Can you predict the future? I can’t. In fact, most of us don’t think we can. Yet we continue to believe in self-limiting thoughts about the future. We believe so firmly in these thoughts we allow them to stop us from moving forward and realizing opportunities.

Embrace your journey and release your fear…
