According to source, East Central University placed three players in double figures, but host Texas Woman’s University did the same and held a hefty rebounding advantage in downing the Lady Tigers 78-72 in Lone Star Conference North women’s basketball play Monday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
The Pioneers, who improved to 14-8 on the season and 5-2 in the LSC North, held a 48-34 rebounding advantage with 18 coming off the offensive glass.
ECU sophomore guard Jourdan Clark tossed in a game-leading 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting with one 3-pointer in a losing cause. She also collected four steals before fouling out.
Joining Clark in double figures was senior guard Casi Rawls with 15 points. Ashley Robison was next with 14. Rawls finished with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals while Robison ended up with four boards, four assists and four steals.
The Lady Tigers, who fell to 9-11 and 2-5 while suffering their fourth straight loss, did rack up 14 steals on the night and forced TWU into 18 turnovers while ECU had five less at 13.
Brooke Shepherd, behind 5-of-11 shooting from outside the arch, paced the Pioneers with 19 points while teammate Kayla Weaver followed with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jessica Hanna chipped in 15 points, eight boards and five assists.
Senior guard Krista Bullis added nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point range to go with two steals for the Lady Tigers. Laura Harris didn’t get into the scoring column for ECU, but pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds.
