According to source, The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team honored its seniors and defeated Northwest Christian 69-52 Saturday night.

The Mountaineers (16-9, 8-8) were led by Rosebud Guthrie’s 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Three players — Kyle Miller, Samantha Flett and Kelsea Hurliman — finished with 12 points.
“We played well in spurts tonght,” EOU head coach Anji Weissenfluh said.

“It was a good team effort. Not just one player, but the whole team stepped up for us.”

Eastern took a slim 29-26 lead into halftime, after the lead changed five times throughout the first 20 minutes.

The Mountaineers opened the lead to 37-30 early in the second half and would never trail the rest of the way.

After having just six points in the paint in the first half, EOU finished the game with 24 paint points.

“That’s something we addressed at halftime and we played big in the second half. Rosebud was really huge for us tonight,” Weissenfluh said.

Eastern Oregon shot 48 percent for the game and knocked down nine of 17 three-point attempts.

Seniors Alyssa Garro, Shaylee Neilsen and Flett were all honored after the game.

“Senior night is always a little bitter. You’re proud of the girls but at the same time you’re a little sad. It’s tough to see them go,” Weissenfluh said.

The Mountaineers lost to Corban College 82-80 Friday night.
