According to source, The Eastern Washington University track and field team traveled to the University of Washington’s Dempsey Facility Friday and Saturday (Feb. 11-12) where five more Big Sky Conference qualifying standards were met and four Eagles nabbed positions on EWU’s all-time best list.
“The goal for these meets is to qualify, and a few more athletes did that this weekend,” said head women’s coach Marcia Mecklenburg. “I was very pleased with our women today. They are putting some things together.”
Stephanie Dye and Danielle Slaughter both qualified in the 3,000-meter run on Friday night. Junior Dye ran the race in 18:04.68 to place her fourth on EWU’s all-time best list while Slaughter finished in 18:27.29 to move the senior into the sixth position on the list.
Freshman Angelica Rodriguez set a personal best in the 800 meters while moving her to third on EWU’s all-time best list. She clocked a time of 2:14.39 while placing first in her heat.
Eastern men’s distance runners also claimed two Big Sky Conference qualifying marks in the 3,000 as senior Bowe Ebding ran the race in 8:29.73 and Cody Barton crossed the finish line in 8:28.46. Junior Kyle King had a personal best in the 5,000 meters, running a time of 14.18.92.
“This was a great weekend for our distance runners,” said distance coach Chris Zeller. “We did exactly what we wanted. We took advantage of having this great facility so close to us. They still have a lot left in the tank and we are still developing.”
