According to the news – This weekend the Elon University graduates will no longer use their maroon gowns, they will start using green gowns. The reason is because the university will use a new line of
commencement gowns, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. One gown is equivalent to 23 bottles.
Elaine Durr, The Elon University director of sustainability said the change shows the university’s commitment to sustainable business and to the environment.
Gerald Whittington, The Elon University vice president for business also said that he is hoping the change sends an education message to families especially to students.
Virginia-based Oak Hall Cap and Gown are the one who made the gown. Zipper and tack that holds the cap’s button in a place are only parts that are not made from recycle materials. Elon University commencement will be this coming Saturday morning.
