According to source – Fresh off their sixth Northeast Conference Championship within the last eight years, the Quinnipiac women’s tennis team acquired where they left off, sweeping the Fairfield University Doubles Festival. The Bobcats were 15-0 at the time, winning all 3 flights in round robin pool play.
“It’s hard to find fault in a day that you go 15-0,” head coach Mike Quitko said. “But we still have some things to work on. It’s a long season, and we can’t get caught-up in our press clippings. I believe the whole team understands how we have to work together for the entire season to accomplish our goals.”
The doubles’ tandem of Julie Labarth (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sarah Viebrock (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated the doubles’ teams from Sacred Heart (8-4), Rhode Island (8-3) and Hartford (8-1) to advance to Pool One’s semifinals. Labarth and Viebrock handled the duo from Connecticut, 8-1, before knocking off Rhode Island again, 8-4.
In the second pool, Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, N.J.) and Jackie Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) ran through the second flight, defeating Providence, 8-2, Fairfield, 8-2, and Sacred Heart, 8-6, to advance to the semifinals.
