According to source - Fresno Pacific University stood out in University Business magazine for a program that made its online signing up faster and more effective.

The university in southeast Fresno was lately listed among six colleges in the nation worthy of its ‘Models of Efficiency’ program for using technology and innovation to enhance providers and administrative operations.

The designation acknowledges Fresno Pacific University for its in-house online distance-learning registration method created after dropping an outside vendor that proved very costly, time-consuming and repetitive as well as insecure, as evidenced by a 2006 breach of the former system that put a group of credit card numbers in danger.

According to source – After leading Fresno Pacific University for the past nine years, Merrill Ewert says he will retire as president, effective July 31, 2012.

The announcement now allows the FPU Board of Trustees to have 14 months to hire a successor to head the private, 3,400-student university, which has its main campus in Fresno and branches in Visalia, Bakersfield and North Fresno.

“The 14 months will go very quickly,” says Mr. Ewert.
He took office June 1, 2002, making his tenure longer than the average university presidency of six-to-seven years. “I literally began my 10th year as president of Fresno Pacific University this morning,” Mr. Ewert says Wednesday in making his retirement announcement.

Fresno Pacific to open Merced center in June

According to source, Fresno Pacific University (FPU) is on its way to opening a new center in Merced, joining those already in place in North Fresno, Visalia and Bakersfield.

With the FPU cabinet giving its approval last month, plans are to open a 4,800 square-foot facility near Merced College and UC Merced in June with an option to expand in the future.

About 60 students are expected to start there in the fall while the university hopes the center will grow to 150 students in a year and offer organizational leadership, school psychology, liberal studies and other education programs, as well as its current early childhood development program.

FPU began offering bachelor’s degree completion classes in Merced in the 1990s and partnered with Headstart last year to offer its early childhood development degree completion program.

A new Merced center has been under consideration for the last three years. Total enrollment at FPU stood at 3,314 students last year, compared to the 2,649 in 2009. The private Christian university also operates satellite programs in Hanford and Lemoore.

The Fresno Grizzlies announced today that they will host the Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds baseball team in an exhibition game at Chukchansi Park on Tuesday, April 5th at 7:05pm. The contest will culminate a busy day at the ballpark, as both the Fresno stop of the San Francisco Giants’ World Champions Trophy Tour, presented by Visa, and Grizzlies Media Day will take place that afternoon.

The Giants’ World Champions Trophy will make its second and final trip to Fresno from 12:00pm-2:00pm on April 5th. The trophy will be on display in the new CRU Club at Chukchansi Park and viewings will be open to the public, free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans will be able to purchase an official photo through Giants Fan

“We couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off our 2011 season than having the World Champions Trophy visit Fresno and playing Fresno Pacific University at our ballpark,” said Grizzlies President Chris Cummings.

Fresno Pacific University announced it will convert its fourth Master’s degree program to an online platform when the spring semester rolls around.

The M.A. in educational technology prepares teachers to integrate technology into their K-12 instruction. Formerly a traditional face-to-face program, it will now be offered entirely online with the first groups of students expected to enroll in January for the spring term.

Among the requirements of enrollment are an application form and fee, three references, an official transcript of a Bachelor’s degree and a letter of explanation for a grade point average under 2.75.

The enrollment at Fresno Pacific University will increase this year.  It will be increasing up to 20% from last year.
