The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that lots of states need registered nurses to earn continuing education (CE) credits even after they’ve already finished their degree programs. This ensures that nurses are continuously improving their skills and growing their knowledge in order to give their patients proper care.

In order to make it simpler for these professionals to advance their expertise, Jacksonville University (JU) in Florida recently opened its doors to more than 5,000 registered nurses for involvement in its free continuing education program, according to a press release. This online course was offered to healthcare professionals through Nurse.com between March 1 and June 8.

According to source – Jacksonville University won its first Atlantic Sun Conference softball tournament title Saturday, beating Lipscomb 7-1.

Amanda Schmidt hit a pair of home runs for the Dolphins (43-14), who earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The tournament’s seedings and selections will be announced Sunday on ESPNU.

“I’m so happy for our team,’’ JU coach Amanda Lehotak said. “They came to play today and secure our team goal we set at the beginning of the year. This is what we worked so hard for to get, and I’m glad we finally achieved it. Now, we are excited to play in the NCAA Tournament.’’

Junior pitcher Sarah Sigrest (26-6) won for the third time in the tournament and limited Lipscomb to one run on three hits in seven innings. She struck out six and retired 10 of the last 11 batters she faced.

According to source, In the past few decades, the digital art platform has grown from the skinny, timid ‘new kid on the block’ into an 800 pound gorilla, camped out in your living room. And you know what they say, “When an 800 pound gorilla moves, it’s often best to move with it, or else give it plenty of room.”

Joel Esposito, a Computer Animation major at Jacksonville University, decided to move with it instead of choosing to step back. Esposito said the initial digital draw, for him, came in the form of a video game from his childhood called Halo: Combat Evolved. The draw is understandable as the video game is responsible for an incredibly popular franchise and it prompted Jonathan Licata, from the All Game Guide, to say this about its graphics. “Great textures and lighting complement incredible detail in both environment and characters, making Halo the best-looking console game to date.” When he reflected on the game that initially drew him toward his current pursuits though, he described it more like a siren’s song than an actual fixation.

The initial moment of inspiration lead to incessant exploration. From there various forums, fan sites and informative tutorials more than likely stoked what will be a lifelong interest in the arts and more specifically, an interest in the constantly evolving realm of 3D digital imaging.

“I was so fascinated by what I saw I decided that I wanted to know more about it,” Esposito said.

According to source, Free throw shooting, a weakness for Jacksonville University much of the season, was anything but that on Saturday.

The Dolphins were successful on 26-of-30 attempts from the foul line, including 17 in a row at one stretch, as JU strengthened its hold on third place in the Atlantic Sun with a 78-68 win over Lipscomb at Swisher Gymnasium.

JU entered the game shooting just 63.7 percent from the foul line, but shot a season-high 86.7 percent against the Bison. In a recent overtime win at North Florida, the Dolphins shot 11 of 26 (42.3 percent) from the stripe.

“We shoot free throws every day; the guys shoot free throws on their off-days,” JU coach Cliff Warren said. “In a game like this, you have to adjust your game depending on the team you’re playing, how the officials are calling the game. I thought our guys did a great job with that.

“My hat goes off to our bench. All seven guys coming off the bench contributed with a rebound, a basket, a deflection, something to help us win.”

According to source, Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida will meet tonight for the second time in 14 days, knowing, once again, that free-throw shooting could be the deciding factor in determining the winner of this city classic.

The Dolphins and Ospreys will meet at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:30 p.m. today. The women’s teams will play at 5 p.m.

Free throws proved to be the difference two weeks ago when JU and UNF met on the Ospreys’ home floor. JU’s Keion Palmer missed two free throws with one second remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Dolphins’ Delwan Graham then converted a pair of free throws with .07 seconds left in the extra session to give JU a one-point victory.

In that game, UNF turned in one of its worst performances of the year from the foul line, making just 14-of-28 attempts — the only game it shot less than 60 percent (with at least 10 attempts) this year, until last Saturday, when the Ospreys lost to league-leader Belmont by one point.
