According to source - Kent State University alumni became students again because they came back to campus for Alumni College. Held May 21, the big event gave participants the chance to reunite with each other and revisit the campus.

“Welcoming more than 100 alumni back to campus for our first Alumni College was very exciting,” said Brittney Braydich, assistant director of outreach for the KSU Alumni Association. “Watching them reconnect with each other and hearing their excitement about all the advancements on campus made the entire day a huge success! We plan to make Alumni College an annual event.”

Educational periods were offered during the day to participants. Kent State faculty people trained classes on subjects for example Katharine Hepburn’s fashion, the fundamentals of wine, liquid deposits and much more.

According to source, The dates and opponents for new head football coach Darrell Hazell’s first season are officially set as Kent State announced the remainder of its 2011 slate in conjunction with the Mid-American Conference schedule release.

“This is a schedule that our fans should really enjoy,” says Kent State Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen. “After our non-conference dates in September, our Homecoming contest with Miami kicks off a three-game homestand that ends with a nationally televised game against Central Michigan.

“I can’t say enough about how much energy, passion and enthusiasm our fans brought to Dix Stadium last season and I know Coach Hazell is going to give them even more reasons to rally behind this program in 2011.”

The Kent State University Department of Athletics announced that 2011 football season tickets will go on sale Friday (Feb. 4). Plans start as low as $30 for the Golden Flashes’ six home games.

Anyone wishing to renew their season tickets should do so prior to June 1 to lock in last year’s prices. New season ticket packages are $30 in the north end zone, $40 in the west bleachers and $65 in the west chairbacks. All season tickets come with a season parking pass and a coupon good for 20% off merchandise at the Kent State University Bookstore.

New this year is the “Golden Ticket” upgrade. Make any season ticket “Golden” for just $15 more and receive a $5 food voucher for each game and the ability to enroll in the Kids’ Club for 50 percent off the regular price.

“We believe in the importance of loyalty and a commitment to family-friendly entertainment,” says Kent State Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen. “And both of those values are reflected in all of our season ticket plans. The response from our fans to our 90Ksu initiative last year was tremendous and we’re looking forward to an even bigger turnout in 2011 in support of our team and new Head Coach Darrell Hazell.”

Louisiana-Lafayette (Sept. 10), South Alabama (Sept. 24), Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Miami will visit Dix Stadium in 2011. Dates and times for the Mid-American Conference slate will be announced in March.

Home-cooked meals and special foods seem to be missed the most. It can be especially hard on students that are studying here from other parts of the world. That’s where the brand new International Home Markets grocery store comes in.

“Internantional students are looking for things that they can find in their own country. Those kinds of things are hard to find in the United States,” said Genia Kollie. Ginia is one of four Kent State University students that operate the new grocery store.

With almost 1,400 KSU students studying here from all corners of the globe, Abdullah Alkhaddah, Nick Testa, Crystal King, and Genia Kollie thought there was an obvious need. Foods imported from China, Mexico, and Korea can be found on thier shelves. Customers are urged to put in any request for food items they may want. The folks at the International Home Markets will do all they can to fill your requests.

Genia’s hope for the future is to expand onto other college campuses. “There’s nothing like this at any other University. Our plan is to travel to other colleges with the same concept”

The International Home Markets grand opening is Saturday, Feb. 5. They are located at 154 East Main Street, in Kent, inside Acorn Alley.

Kent State University recently conferred degrees to Summer graduates during commencement exercises Aug. 19 in the E. Turner Stump Theatre, and on Aug. 21 in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, both on the Kent Campus.

Kent summer graduates from Louisville are Jennifer Crawford, Anthony Dinarda, Elizabeth Farr, Matthew Gonsiewski, Kyle Hunter, Erin Kellams, Ryan Kuceyeski, Mitchell Ramsey, William Stillwagon, Anna Unkefer, Anna Unkefer and Patrick Welden.

The university awarded 3 associate degrees, 815 bachelor’s degrees and 449 graduate degrees to students.

Kent State University was founded in 1910 as a teacher-training school and received university status in 1935.
