According to source, Freshman Kayla McBride scored 20 points in a reserve role and Notre Dame (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) shot well, defeating Loyola Marymount 91-47 on Thursday at the Seattle University Holiday Tournament.

Notre Dame (11-3) and Loyola Marymount (6-8) each won their openers Wednesday. The tournament didn’t officially bill this as the championship game.

McBride hit 9-for-14 and Notre Dame made nearly 58 percent of its tries overall. Senior Devereaux Peters scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half as the Irish pulled away.

Becca Bruszewski made all six of her shots and finished with 12 points. Skylar Diggins added 10 as Notre Dame won its sixth in a row.

According to source, On Thursday, the women of St. Mary’s began league play with a 65-53 loss over West Coast Conference rival Loyola Marymount University Lions. Although the Gaels defense held up well, the SMC offense struggled throughout the game with senior Suzie Davis scoring a layup for the first bucket of the game 30 seconds in. It would be the only time the Gaels would lead in the game.

The Lions would extend their lead to 5 led by a three-pointer by LMU guard Candice Nichols with sixteen minutes left in the first half, which LMU up for good. With thirty-five minutes left to play, the Gaels would not come any closer. Despite this, the Gaels kept the game close with good defense and forcing the Lions to take bad shots. LMU’s defense was just as good with the Lions going into halftime with a 30-23 lead.

The second half seemed to be a mirror image of the first half. Both defenses played good defense and the offenses couldn’t get anything going. There were some frightening moments during the second half. Senior Gael forward Louella Tomlinson went down with what looked like a serious knee injury, but would later return to the game. Two LMU players would also go down with what appeared to be head injuries; they would not return. The Gaels would bring the LMU lead down to 5, but would not get any closer.

Even though the Gaels won the rebound battle 40-25, they had nearly twice as many turnovers as the Lions and were only 5-12 from the foul line. They did limit the Lions to 15 free throws, but they made 13 of them. However, Lions were only 25 percent from behind the arc. In the end, the final score was 65-53 led by Renahy Young’s 21 points. The Gaels were led by Jasmine Smith’s 15 points and Suzie Davis’s 13 points. SMC would drop the to 8-8, being 0-1 in league play.

JusCollege.com, a free social networking site and full-service concierge service just for college students, is launching this month at the University of Colorado, Loyola Marymount University, USC, the University of Arizona and San Diego State University.

JusCollege.com mirrors the original version of Facebook. Initially, Facebook was available only to college students—first at Harvard University and then at other schools. Now, Facebook registration is open to anyone.

The social networking giant, founded in 2004, ranks as the most visited website in the United States; it has more than 500 million registered users around the world.

Twenty-eight percent of Facebook users are in college, according to DigitalTrends.com.

As a social networking site, JusCollege.com lets registered students communicate with friends through tools like messaging and photo sharing. Users of the site can connect only with other students who’ve signed up.

Aside from serving a Facebook-like function, JusCollege.com offers concierge services. The site bills itself as a resource for discounted products and services, including entertainment, dining and travel. JusCollege.com says the typical college student spends more than $600 a month on goods and services.

“The great thing about our site is we’re not reliant on social networking aspects,” founder and CEO Andrew Citores told the Boulder Daily Camera. “Whether it’s academics, organizational services, buying food, apparel, textbooks or organizing events, JusCollege is a one-stop shop for everything college.”

Citores, a Southern California entrepreneur and an alumnus of Loyola Marymount, said JusCollege.com is open only to college students with e-mail addresses ending in .edu. That way, Citores said, “parents, teachers and future employers can’t see what students are posting and sharing with each other.”

On his Facebook page, Citores said the people who’ve inspired him include Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple head honcho Steve Jobs and President Ronald Reagan.

Loyola Marymount University

Loyola Marymount University traces its history through Loyola University, founded in 1911.

Loyola Marymount University, the 8,700-student Jesuit school in Los Angeles, on Monday named its first permanent lay president, choosing its interim leader, David W. Burcham.

A graduate and former dean of Loyola Law School, Burcham has served as the university’s second in command for two years. Father Robert B. Lawton, a Jesuit, resigned as president for health reasons in March. Burcham then led the school on a temporary basis while a search was conducted.

An increasing number of Catholic universities around the country have lay presidents.
