Together with Van Andel Research Institute and the Translational Genomics Research Institute, College of Human Medicine of Michigan State University researchers are concentrating on the drug Fasudil. The drug is actually presently approved in Japan for stoke victims. It helps the improvement of the blood flow to the brain.

The project is funded by Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. According to the Mayo Clinic, Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement.

According to the news – As the population of human increase, agricultural systems are under pressure to product more food. Researchers from Michigan State University believe that breeding dairy cows will produce milk with less feed.

Animal science professor and MSU AgBioResearch faculty member Mike VandeHaar said that they already know how to get cows produce more than 100 pounds of milk a day – they have the science to be able to do that. He also added that their question now is whether some cows are genetically predisposed to produce that milk with less feed. If they will find that feed efficiency is inherent in a cow’s DNA, it will improve our ability to sustainably produce the milk and dairy products that our growing population consumes.

The grant amounting to $5 million from U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture will help VandeHaar and other fellow Michigan State University researchers to set goals to increase the efficiency and sustainability of milk production.

According to the news – Michigan State University’s Reproductive and Developmental Sciences Initiative will have ongoing collaborations among faculty in animal science, regenerative medicine, human medicine and genetics who work in labs across Michigan State University’s East Lansing and Grand Rapids campuses.

They will use human clinical trials and animals models, Michigan State University researchers will explore the entire aspects of the reproductive puzzle in mammals starting from genetic and then environmental influences to stem cell, pharmaceutical and bioengineering solutions.

Stem cell biology/regenerative medicine, Women’s health, Impact of environment on reproductive function and Developmental epigenetics are the four main points of the initiative
