According to the news – Last week some employees already received layoff notice from Minnesota West Community and Technical for the preparation of the possible state government shutdown.

President of Minnesota West, Richard Shrubb said that he is afraid that students will go to school someplace else and never come back. He also added they’ll go to South Dakota or Iowa, private schools all over the state of Minnesota or the University of Minnesota.

University of Minnesota is a federal land grant university and it is not included in a state-level shutdown like the other MnSCU schools.

President Subb also said that Minnesota West is planning for three possible contingencies.
The legislature could come to an agreement with the governor and then there will be no shutdowns. The college can then proceed.

President Subb said the worst scenario is they do not come up with an agreement and they have to lay everybody off and shut down the college.

Minnesota West still has third option. In the event of a shutdown, the governor could allow the college to use its reserves, they can continue running for two and a half more months.
