According to the news – Tuition at Muskegon Community College will raise this fall. The MCC Board of Trustees Wednesday voted unanimously for raising the tuition for students who live within Muskegon County by 5.8 percent, from $77 to $81.50 per contact hour. The tuition hike was included in the college’s 2011-2012 budgets.
Trustee Dorothy Lester said that the increase was necessary due to the drops in state aid and property tax revenue. She also added that nobody wants to increase tuition on the backs of students but with state appropriations they have no choice.
For students who live in Michigan but outside Muskegon County will have increase tuition to $143 per contact hour, it is an $8 increase. Out-of-state students will pay $196 per contact hour, up from $185.
The increase of tuition comes despite claims that part of the tuition hike will pay for annual salary and step increases which is included in some faculty and staff members contracts.
