According to the news – Last Wednesday, the six years project in the making to create state-of-the-art agriculture learning facility has officially opened last Wednesday and officials are hoping that the center will prepare farmers for years to come.
Northcentral Technical College leaders and others cut the ribbon on the Agriculture Center of Excellence. The students will introduced to technology like robotic milking machine and will learn about different cattle-management techniques. A partnership with the Case IH manufacturer also gives students the opportunity to try out the new in agriculture equipment.
Coordinator of marketing and public relations for the college, Susan Ryman said that the center will host more than 30 students in NTC’s dairy science associate degree program and will serve about 250 students overall in various NTC agriculture courses.
Secretary for the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Ben Brancel said that it isn’t just classrooms, its hands-on experiences; it’s the people that work there and the educators who will provide that information to students. He also added that it is more valuable even than the structures and the buildings.
President of NTC’s Board of Trustees, Paul Proulx said that there are more than 60 people, businesses and government agencies that helped create the center, which is a remarkable partnership. It also includes a contribution from Case IH of $2 million annually for at least the next 10 years.
