Even though Alex Broches plans to graduate with a geography degree this winter from Northern Illinois University, the hybrid academic and social networking website he created earlier this year has become his most likely job prospect after graduation.

Broches, 22, launched CollegeJunkee.com in February, a concept born from a chat in his Sycamore garage with his brother and his best friend about how they didn’t know anyone in their classes for the upcoming college year.

The site’s emphasis was to connect students so they could share information.
