According to the news – The President of Northern Maine Community College, Tim Crowley said that the 50 percent of NMCC graduates stay to work in Aroostook Country and the Ninety Fiver percent find jobs in Maine. President Crowley said during a ceremony for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of NMCC that the college has become the work force arm of the County and it will not be possible without a number of County legislators.
John Reed, A Former Governor who is also a Fort Fairfield native, signed the bill into law that created NMCC on June 17, 1961. There are several buildings named after prominent elected officials from the regions like Reed Dining Common, Snow Hall, Christie Hall, Edmunds Building and Martin Building.
The former state Sen. Floyd L. Harding and former state Rep. Harold L. ‘Bud’ Stewart were also recognized for their outstanding efforts 50 years ago in ensuring the creation of NMCC.
