According to source, Beginning in June, Pacific University will expand its Master of Arts in teaching program to Woodburn, the university announced this month.
Pacific University is partnering with the Woodburn School District, offering the program to middle and high school science and math teaching candidates, helping to meet the current high need for teachers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines.
“This is outstanding news,” said Superintendent David Bautista. “Dr. Kevin Carr has been supporting the district in many respects.”
Carr, a resident of Woodburn who is also a professor of science education at the university, promoted a summer science program this past year for teachers paid with grant money.
This new teaching degree program provides $15,000 in scholarship money for each of the 12 to 15 teachers who choose to enter the program.
