According to source – Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott has introduced the appointment of Shawn Naccarato because the university’s first director of government and community relations.

The positioning includes all responsibilities presently held through the university’s legislative liaison and grows individuals responsibilities to incorporate both federal initiatives and community relations. It’ll report straight to the leader and work carefully using the university’s Classified Senate.

Ticket writers back in business on Pittsburg State campus with more spaces to police

PITTSBURG — Over the Christmas break, Pittsburg State University got to work, adding more than 80 new parking spaces to campus, including 65 at the corner of Ford and Joplin streets, and another 16 spaces north of the Newman Center.

While most students and staff are happy about extra opportunities for parking, the new spaces just mean more work for parking ticket writers like PSU freshman Emily Westhoff.

Westhoff started with the PSU Parking Services over the summer, and said the job comes with its ups and downs, including some good-natured ribbing from friends.

“It’s a lot less stressful than my old job in the food industry,” she said. “You don’t have to deal with as many angry people. Even though I am the narc of the school, as my friends call me. It’s a lot less stressful, though.”

When Westhoff started, she said she could write up to 50 tickets a day during the dreads of summer. But on most days, she writes only 20 or so.

Decked in a winter coat, gloves, a hat and a bright orange vest, Westhoff braved the 20-degree weather on Tuesday. The weather is the worst part of the job, but not necessarily winter weather.

Pittsburg State University was founded in 1903 as the Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School.

Though construction won’t be officially completed for another two weeks, Pittsburg State University officials formally dedicated the new Crimson Commons dormitories at ceremony and ribbon-cutting at the south end of the complex Saturday morning.

“This is a signature day for our university, our students and our community,” Pitt State President Steve Scott said to the approximately 40 guests who attended. Scott said the last time new student housing was constructed on campus since Dellinger Hall was built in 1966.

“Students expect a living environment that meets their needs,” he said, and hinted that more housing might on the horizon. “We find ourselves still needing more rooms, and that’s a good thing.”
