According to source – Plymouth State University is beginning a new nursing degree program in response to an increasing shortage of nurses, specifically in New Hampshire’s most rural places.
Beginning this fall, Plymouth State will give you a four-year bachelor of science degree in nursing, along with a bachelor’s degree completion program for current nurses who curently have associate’s degrees. The school expects about 40 freshman and 30 sophomores to sign up the first year in addition to transfer college students.
Dr. Mary Bantell, who directs the school’s nursing department, states the need for nurses in New Hampshire who are trained beyond the associate-degree level is growing in most part of the state.
There are approximately 12,500 nurses in New Hampshire, but the state expects to need 4,000 more in the next five years.

Plymouth State University won 13 of the 16 events Saturday afternoon en route to a 145-135 victory over Saint Joseph College (Conn.) in a women’s swimming and diving meet at the PSU Natatorium.
Junior Nicole Brodeur (Claremont) won three individual events and swam on a winning relay team to lead the Panthers. She captured the 50-yard butterfly in 29.21 seconds, the 100-yard fly in 1:03.90, and the 100-yard free in 58.33 seconds. Brodeur was also the lead swimmer on the winning 400-yard free relay team.
Three other Panther swimmers were double-winners. Junior Brittney Gondek took the 50-yard backstroke in 30.88 second and the 100-yard back in a season-best 1:04.40; sophomore Jennifer Samaro (Salem) was the fastest in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.82 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.96; and freshman Delia Foley (Londonderry) brought home the win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.70) and 500-yard freestyle (5:50.45).
