STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – St. John’s University will have its annual Staten Island Christmas Concert on Sunday, featuring a performance of “The Nutcracker,” among other holiday favorites.

The show — to be held at 3 p.m. at the Campus Center of the Grymes Hill school — will feature the Staten Island Youth Harmonic, New American Youth Ballet and Richmond County Orchestra, conducted by Alan Aurelia. It will include a cheerful mix of music and ballet to spread the Christmas spirit.

A dance ensemble of costumed children from the New American Youth Ballet and the melodic voices of the Staten Island Youth Harmonic will highlight the afternoon’s festivities, capped by a performance of the Richmond Country Orchestra, which has long been a staple of St. John’s holiday celebration on Staten Island.

“The concert is a symbol of the many joys the holidays bring us. St. John’s University is proud to continue the tradition and celebrate this wonderful time of the year in song and dance with our community members in Staten Island,” said Joseph Sciame, vice president for community relations.

The Office of Community Relations also partners with the New York City Restoration Project’s Million Trees program, organizes an annual Veterans Day ceremony, and conducts bi-monthly Community Dialogue Group meetings and other activities on the Staten Island campus. It will participate in next year’s multifaceted celebration of the 350th anniversary of the Island: SI 350.

There is a suggested $20 donation at the door; children and students will be admitted free of charge.
