University Love Connection

According to source, It’s hard to take much — actually, it’s hard to take anything — from a game like St. Louis University’s 90-52 romp over Chicago State on Tuesday night. It was a nonconference game parachuted into the midst of the conference season because of a late-breaking schedule conflict, and a game against one of the worst teams in the nation to boot.

So Dwayne Evans’ 16 points and 17 rebounds — his third double-double in four games and the most rebounds by a Billiken since Tommie Liddell had 17 in the first game of the 2006-07 season — and the team’s 50 rebounds, the most since 1996, have to be taken in that context.

But the one thing that produced the most smiles was a basket by walk-on Brian Daly with 56 seconds to play, Daly’s first points of the season. With the game totally out of hand by halftime and Jordair Jett on the bench resting a sore knee, Daly, a freshman from Evanston, Ill., played eight minutes, more than he had the entire season.
