Mary of the Woods is a private institution that was founded in 1840. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1465, its setting is rural.

White Violet Farm Alpacas, a ministry of Sisters of Providence,celebrated National Alpaca Farm Days 2010 with an open house 1-3 p.m. last Sept. 26, Sunday at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Visitors saw the alpacas up close, talk with staff members, saw fiber demonstrations, and purchase alpaca fiber and alpaca items such as handmade rugs, hats, scarves, gloves/mittens and socks.

The Sisters of Providence have 63 alpacas in their herd.

Alpacas have been domesticated for thousands of years. Along with camels and llamas, alpacas are classified as camelids.
