According to source, The Saint Vincent women’s basketball team will embark on history on Friday, as the Bearcats are set to make their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division-III National Tournament.
The Bearcats (24-4), ranked 20th nationally by d3hoops.com, will make a two-hour trek down Route 22 to Huntingdon, PA and Juniata College to face 15th-ranked Greensboro College (26-2) in first round action beginning tomorrow at 5:30pm.
“It means a lot to get to the National Tournament,” said interim SVC coach Jimmy Petruska. “And the fact that we did so our first year eligible, that says a lot.”
The Bearcats, who received one of 21 at-large bids to the field of 64, enter the tournament on the heels of a 66-55 defeat in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference title game to top-ranked Thomas More College on Saturday. Saint Vincent was able to hang with the Saints for the duration, despite seeing a pair of guards suffer significant injuries in its semifinal win over Waynesburg on Friday.
