Stanford University announced Thursday it has received a record number of applications from students hoping to make up the undergraduate class of 2015.
“I attribute it directly to Stanford’s reputation,” associate dean and director of admission Bob Patterson said in reference to the 34,200 applications — 7 percent more than last year. “It’s something students aspire for.”
Between 2,300 and 2,400 students will be admitted, or about 7 percent of all the applicants, Patterson said.
That includes the 754 early applicants who received acceptance letters in December. The university also received a record number of early applications, 5,929.
Patterson said the record number doesn’t come as a surprise because the school has seen a steady increase in recent years. Students will find out whether they get in by the end of March and have until May 1 to reply.
