According to the news – On Wednesday, authorities said that Chattanooga State, Cleveland State and other Tennessee Board of Regents colleges and universities will have 9.5 percent rise or even higher for students .
Hank Dye, University of Tennessee’s vice president for public and government relations said the UT board of trustees will consider increases in the same general ballpark at its institutions such as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Officials blame the sharper than expected increases on different factors that includes 2 percent cuts or about $20 million in state appropriations for higher education in the budget year that will start on July 1.
Official said that Board of Regents and UT systems continue to digest nearly $300 million of loss in federal stimulus funds on July 1 and the systems must foot the bill for part of a 1.6 percent pay increase for employees.
