According to the news – University of South Alabama trustees today will take into consideration increasing tuition by 8.4 percent for the 2011-12 academic year.

Wednesday the board’s committee of the entire voted unanimously to suggest the increase for full-time undergraduate students. It would increase tuition and fees for the academic year to $7,380 from $6,810 in 2010-11.

Students would pay five.7 percent additional to live on campus, and three.9 percent more for the meal plan. the board committee recommended provisional approval of a $308.7 million spending budget for the new year.

The spending budget doesn’t give a salary increase.

The board will adopt the 2011-12 budget in September right after USA leaders obtain fall enrollment figures, according to President Gordon Moulton. Last fall, the student head-count topped 15,000, a record.

Last year, the board approved a 14 percent tuition increase.
