According to source – Small farmers can build up their incomes by transforming their properties into tourist attractions, however they need good people skills to be successful in those undertakings, experienced agritourism business operators said Friday.

“If you don’t just love people, you most likely should not have people on your farm,” said Ellen Dalton, who has operated Pumpkin Hollow in northeast Arkansas since the early 1990s.

Dalton and Ples Spradley, who has had a you-pick blueberry farm in Lonoke County for more than 20 years, told farmers at a conference about what they could anticipate , and what they should look out for, if they get into the business.

FIU women fall to University of Arkansas at Little Rock

The FIU women’s’ basketball team fell 54-45 to Sun Belt Conference foe University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Wednesday at U.S. Century Bank Arena.

Panthers senior guard Mitchell Gonzalez and forward Elisa Carey tied for a team-high 11 points. Junior forward Rakia Rodgers had 10 points and nine rebounds.

“They played a physical defense and I think that affected us a little bit.” FIU coach Cindy Russo said. The Golden Panthers, fresh off a commanding 71-63 win over Denver on Saturday, had a narrow 18-13 first-half lead.

The Pioneers limited Rodgers, who scored eight of 10 points in the first period, holding her to 4-13 shooting from the floor.
The second-half proved to be a different story for UALR, with the Pioneers outscoring FIU 41-27.

“We have a lot of growing up to do,’’ Russo said. “We’re still playing a lot of young kids.” With the win, the Pioneers (12-5, 6-0 SBC) extend their season-high winning streak to nine games.
FIU (7-13, 2-4 SBC), has now dropped 10 out of its last 13 games,. will play at South Alabama on Saturday.
