CHARLESTON, W.Va. — It is certainly no coincidence that the University of Charleston women’s basketball team has four players with more than 700 career points.

As Coach Sherry Winn’s 10th season with UC progresses, there are more parts contributing to her ongoing success.

The Golden Eagles will try to win for the fifth time in their last six games tonight against undermanned West Virginia State in a Kanawha County West Virginia Conference battle at Fleming Hall in Institute.

The University of Charleston (11-5, 7-3 WVC) is coming off an 81-76 victory at Shepherd during which the Eagles had eight players get at least 10 minutes each.

Of those players, four have scored more than 700 career points, led by senior Lindsey Kentner. The 5-foot-8 guard has 1,280 career points, putting her 12 points behind Winn, the 14th-leading scorer in UC history.

Senior forward Tarenna Dixon has 966 career points, senior point guard Ali Tobias has 873 and senior guard and former Capital star Tiana Beatty has 873.

In her 10th season on the bench for the Golden Eagles, Coach Sherry Winn has a 211-81 record.

About 10 miles west of Charleston are the Yellow Jackets (6-10, 4-6), who have battled injuries and defections to win three of their last four games.

Third-year Coach Renee Bostic’s 12-player roster to begin the season was pared to nine before the first game.
