According to the news – There is now a new carport at the University of Colorado. It will generate a solar power for the Boulder campus and at the same time shading cars from the sun.
Reports from daily camera says that solar panels on the carport’s roof should produce electricity to power 20 single family homes for a year.
The third party is the financer of the project that takes advantage of renewable energy incentives.
Moe Tabrizi, the CU-Boulder sustainability director said that for 7 years, CU will buy power generated from the carport from the financing company for about the same price it is paying Xcel Energy for electricity now. He also added that CU expects to get free power, plus a renewable energy incentive from Xcel of roughly $25,000 to $30,000 per year.
