According to the news – Most of rural communities often lack adequate health care because many doctors are more interested in practicing to different urban cities. One small town in Kansas wants to change that and bring more people who want to be a doctor to the area.
The University of Kansas of Medicine Dean, Dr. Barbara Atkinson said that 12 counties in Kansas do not really have full time physician. In order to address the situation, University of Kansas opened a brand new campus in Salina to encourage medical students to remain local after they graduated.
Actually, the brand new campus is the smallest school to offer four year medical education in the country in terms of students because currently it only has eight students.
According to the reports of New York Times, the research suggested that students trained in metropolitan areas have the hard time adjusting to rural practice. Medical care in rural areas is different from big cities.
According to source – For the third amount of time in its 38 year history, the Kansas Shrine Bowl is going to be performed in Hays, creating a return visit to the state’s most western site where two previous games happen to be performed. The state’s premier football all-star game will be staged at Lewis Field on Ft. Hays State University campus on July 30th, 2011, with kickoff set for 7 pm.
The two previous Shrine Bowl games in Hays were 10 years apart, in 1997 and 2007, but Shrine Bowl Executive Director Dave Mize is glad to be returning to one of the state’s outstanding football communities in just four years. “The Hays people, and that includes the community, the local Shriners, and Ft. Hays State, have made it very clear that they love to host our game,” he says. “They have ‘rolled out the red carpet’ each time we’ve been here, and it was an easy decision to award the game to Hays based on how helpful they’ve been on our previous visits”.
