According to source – The very first time in more than two decades, the fall term at the University of La Verne started with a new leader.
Covina native Devorah Lieberman is the very first female president in the university’s 120-year history.
Monday has been the first day of the fall term at the university.
“Quite a number of people have said to me, `It’s so great having a woman president,’ and I was a little bit taken for surprise, because it never occurred to me that I was here as the first female president,” Lieberman said.
“The university and the board of trustees saw in me the skills and the experience to provide the leadership that is needed for this institution at this time,” said Lieberman, whose career in higher education has spanned 33 years.

According to source – For three weeks, the University of La Verne hosts numerous local students researching what must be done to start and operate a business.
Through This July 15, students from Covina-Valley and Pomona Unified and Chaffey Joint Union high school districts is going to be remaining in dorms, eating cafeteria food and becoming the school experience with the university’s Achieve summer time business camping.
It gives students a unique chance to develop their very own idea for any business and create a strategic business plan for this, based on the university’s news release.

Top law school students from throughout Southern California, Arizona, Utah and Hawaii will face off in a battle of cunning and charisma Feb. 18-20 as part of the National Trial Competition – one of the oldest and most prestigious mock trial competitions in the United States.
The University of La Verne College of Law is hosting a regional competition, involving 29 teams from law schools throughout the Southwestern U.S. and Hawaii. Winning teams will battle against champions from 13 other regions in the National Finals April 6-10 in Houston.
Members of the public are welcome to watch students square off in a courtroom drama focused on a fictional double-murder/robbery trial. Student teams begin the competition on Friday, with winners proceeding to
semi-finals on Saturday. The best teams compete in final rounds on Sunday.

The University of La Verne was founded in 1891 as Lordsburg College by members of the Church of the Brethren who had moved west.
