According to the news – University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus next Tuesday will host another 101 introductory course. This one is not on their regular curriculum. The executive director of the Transgender Resources Center of New Mexico, Adrien Lawyer will lead the panel discussion on what he likes to call Transgender 101.

Adrien Lawyer said he so excited to be able to come. Most of the time they start educational sessions off with very basic information. They do that because nobody really knows about them. It’s just something most people don’t ever think about. They don’t look at a man and say, ‘I wonder if they were born a girl.’”
To educate people about terminology, etiquette, information about transition and people who are transgender and gender variant is the goal of the discussion.

Adrien Lawyer also said there are transgender people everywhere. You probably have encountered them and didn’t even know. We’re black, white, gay, straight, all walks of life. This is about treating people with dignity and humanity when you encounter them.

Lawyer will discuss with the students about the modern-day issues of gender role and identity, sexual orientation and the lives of those who are transgender or in the LGBTQIA community and what they face. The panel of discussion is from Tuesday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m this coming June 28 in the UNM-VC Student-Community Center. It is actually being offered in association with UNM-VC professor Mary Cooper-Wallace’s Psych 105 class.

UNM-VC Wellness Club and the Queer Straight Alliance sponsored the event and it is free event that will be open to all students and community members
