GAME NOTES: All alone in last place in the West Coast Conference standings, the San Diego Toreros try yet again to log their first league win of the season as they tangle with the University of Portland Pilots at the Chiles Center tonight.

The Toreros have a grand total of just four wins so far this season and only two of those have come against Division I foes. Last Saturday, the team took a break from WCC action to host Cal State Bakersfield and managed to come away with a 76-65 victory, snapping a six-game slide. During that losing streak, USD had fallen in all five conference matchups.

As for the Pilots, they have the second-most wins overall in the WCC with 14, yet the team sits in a tie for fifth place in the standings with a record of 2-3. Last Saturday, Portland was crushed by Santa Clara on the road in a 72-59 final, the second straight setback for the group and the third in the last five games after the team had lost just three of its first 15.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Toreros are ahead by a count of 41-25, although it was Portland that won all three meetings last season, including a quarterfinal matchup during the WCC Tournament. The teams are set to square off once more this season in late February in California.
