According to source, Tulsa is once again breaking weather records that have stood for nearly 90 years.
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Tulsa recorded 0.4 inches of snow on Tuesday night, and 5.3 inches on Wednesday, a total of 5.7 inches of snow for the entire storm.
This means that the new month-long snowfall record for Tulsa is 22.5 inches. The previous record was 19.7 inches, set in March 1924.
With the storm’s 5.7 inches factored in, Tulsa has received 26.1 inches of snow during the entire season. This breaks the record set in 1923-24, 25.6 inches.
These two records join records set last week on Feb. 1 for most snowfall in a 24-hour period and a single storm – 14 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
While other areas of the state received more snow during Wednesday’s storm, including Delaware County’s reported 25 inches, Tulsa National Weather Service meteorologist Pete Snyder said this month has been noteworthy for the city.
“It’s been a historical snowfall,” Snyder said. “That’s obviously something we’re not used to seeing here and may not see again in our lifetimes.”
At the very least, it might not be something Tulsa will see this coming week, as the weather service forecasts no more precipitation through the weekend. However, a wind chill advisory has been issued for all of northeast Oklahoma, including Tulsa County, through 11 a.m. Thursday.
Much like the snow, the cold temperatures are not expected to continue for long either, as highs in the lower to middle 60s are forecast for early next week.
