University of Utah hires a new associate vice president for enrollment management

According to the news – Mary G. Parker, who comes from Louisiana State University, has been selected as the new associate vice president for enrollment management of University of Utah.

Her responsibilities include designing and carrying out U’s first integrated strategic enrollment plan. She will start working on September 12.

According to U news release, since 2004, Parker worked in enrollment management at Louisiana State. Since 2007, she also worked as executive director of undergraduate admissions and student aid and chief enrollment officer.

The percent of overall enrollment for Louisiana State under Parker guidance increase by 14 percent and the university admitted that it is the largest and most diverse freshman class in their history.

According to source – Bob Palais states he is doing his best considering mathematics adhering to some rock face, or racing lower a ski slope.

Like a research professor of mathematics in the University of Utah, Palais is definitely seeking how you can train math in ways which will keep his students’ eyes from crossing.

“I’ve just continued to look for better ways to understand other topics in pure math, its applications to visualization and molecular medicine and how to teach these topics in new and better ways,” Palais said.

BYU, University of Utah study abroad programs watching Egypt turmoil

According to source, Study abroad directors at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University have students scheduled to go to Egypt but are watching developments there with the anticipation travel plans could change.

BYU may shift students to another location in the Middle East for a study abroad scheduled to depart for Cairo at the end of August. But the U.’s Egypt program, based in Alexandria, has a May 18 departure. That doesn’t give the school enough time to revise its plans if the political turmoil in Egypt makes it unsafe to take students there.

“The greater likelihood is that we would have to cancel the entire program if the situation doesn’t settle down,” said Mark Bean, associate dean and director of the U.’s Office of International Education/Study Abroad. At this point, the U. is still accepting students for the Egypt program, which has a March 4 application deadline. There are typically 20 to 25 students involved.

Meantime, the school typically watches U.S. State Department travel advisories, diplomatic advisories from countries like Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom, and often talks with other universities or directly with embassies in areas where there are potential safety concerns.
