According to the news – University of Virginia’s College of Arts & Sciences professor of mathematics, Irena Lasiecka has been chosen by her friends around the world to receive one of the top one prizes in the field of differential equations and control theory.
According to the executive director of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, who also happens to be the sponsor of the annual prize in a specific area of applied mathematics “Lasiecka will be awarded the 2011 W.T. and Idalia Reid Prize, joining “a very distinguished list of winners dating back to the inception of the prize in 1994.
Irena Lasiecka is actually the first woman who will receive the reward that includes a cash prize of $10,000 and engraved medal. In late july she will receive the award at the society’s annual meeting. She was also invited to present a plenary lecture at the conference.
