According to the news – Researchers from University of Texas Medical Branch, University of Alabama, University of Wisconsin and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published online about a single dose of experimental vaccine protected lab mice from infection with virus in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

U.S. researchers developed a brand new candidate vaccine to counter chikungunya virus. This virus is actually a mosquito borne pathogen. It produces intensely painful and often chronic disease. It already stricken millions and millions of people from Africa, India and Southeast Asia.

Senior author of the paper and Director of UTMB’s Institute for Human Infections and Immunity, Scott Weaver said that they are currently have no approved treatment or vaccine for chikungunya, and there’s a real need for an effective vaccine to protect against this debilitating and economically devastating infection.
