According to the news – Former Mount Pulaski High School standout Mallory Clements is now the Western Illinois University new assistant volleyball coach.
In 2004, Clements received the Honorary Captain of The State Journal-Register All-Area Volleyball Team and named to the 2007 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team. In 2009, she graduated from Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
She actually spent past two seasons as head coach Todd Gober ‘s assistant coach. She works on
day-to-day administrative duties like fund raising efforts, organizing practices and coordinating travel.
Western Illinois University volleyball coach Kym McKay said that Mallory’s experience at another Illinois state institution is a huge bonus. She is very familiar with the policies and procedures that we follow.
She played for 2005-2008 four seasons with the cougars and for her final two years he served as the team captain.
According to source, Western Illinois University president Al Goldfarb is giving university students and staff a look at WIU’s FY 2011 cash flow.
President Goldfarb told us that WIU is still waiting to hear from Gov. Quinn on the money that the university has still not gotten from the state of Illinois.
They have begun to cut items like equipment and travel expenditures, but they will be able to pay the 9 million dollars spend each month on payroll. The university is basically living off incoming tuition money.
An open letter regarding WIU finances is posted on the university’s website. The letter also questions what impact the recently-passed Illinois income tax hike might have on higher education funding.

According to source, Browne Hall at Western Illinois University was evacuated Wednesday morning when a welder’s torch caught insulation on fire in the building’s mechanical room, located in the basement.
According to Macomb Fire Department Deputy Chief J.R. Hyde, a worker was welding pipe, when sparks put off by his work ignited foam insulation.
The smoke caused automatic alarms to trip, and the building was fully evacuated. Several classes were in session at the time.
When crews arrived, Hyde said light smoke was present in the hallways, but smoke in the mechanical was extremely thick. Firefighters were able were able contain the blaze with fire extinguishers.
Hyde said that damage to the room was minimal. Light fixtures were melted, vents were damaged and the ceiling was blackened. There were no injuries.
Hyde said the building was sufficiently evacuated by the time crews arrived.
A strong odor of smoke remains in the building, causing classes for the remainder of Wednesday and all day Thursday to be moved to Sallee and Memorial halls.
Students, faculty and staff were allowed back in the building to retreive belongings.

As part of the school’s annual Founder’s Day celebration, Western Illinois University President Al Goldfarb gave his final State of the University address Thursday.
Goldfarb has announced he will retire from the school in June, but before that, he said Thursday, the school is facing some of its most challenging budget times.
He called his final Founder’s Day as the school’s leader “bittersweet.”
Goldfarb also said the school continues to focus on freshmen recruitment and retention and hopes to draw on recent increases in enrollment among several student demographics.
